Best Overall – Intex Ultra XTR Frame
link: amazon.com/Intex-Rectangular-Filter-Ladder-Ground/dp/B07F3FTJCM
Dimension: 24ft x 12ft x 52in |Shape: Rectangular |Water Capacity: 8403 Gallons |Set-up-time: 90 minutes |Material: Steel |Suits Up To 8 People |Color: Gray
You must have seen the ‘Intex Ultra XTR’ many places and for a good reason. This above ground pool is different from others in that it is of good quality, enjoys strong brand reputation, durability and best value all at once. For several years running Intex has remained one of the most influential names in above ground pools.
The Intex Ultra XTR will last for long periods of time. One can be sure that it has a strong powder-coated steel frame which provides excellent stability as well as durability.
Additionally, this galvanized steel frame is not just strong but it also rustproof and resistant to corrosion which makes it very important when being applied outdoors. As such your pool structure will retain its form during all seasons including harsh winter times. By the way, it also has an additional saltwater option.
It comes with essential accessories to get you swimming right away. The pool package typically includes:
- The Krystal Clear Sx 2100 Pump Sand Filter (which is known for reliable and efficient sand filter pump perfect)
- Filter cartridges for easy maintenance
- A durable ground cloth to protect the pool liner
- A cover to keep your pool free of debris when not in use
- A sturdy ladder for safe and easy entry and exit
Size Options and Considerations
The Intex Ultra XTR Frame comes in various sizes like 18×9, 24×12, and 32×16. I love this pool because it’s spacious and comfortable for a family of two adults and three kids. However, one small downside is that it only comes in a 52″ height option. I wouldn’t recommend it if you have kids under 5 years old swimming alone in the pool.
Pros:
- Powder-coated steel frame that is durable
- Snap-in design for quick assembly and clear instructions
- All essential accessories are included
- There are different size options to suit various needs and spaces
- It offers good value for money considering its quality and features included.
Cons:
- Not many options compared to some custom pools available on the market
- The steel frame may require extra maintenance to keep rusting at bay over time
- A few users mentioned that the ladder was not strong enough
Best Inflatable – Intex Easy Set Inflatable Pool
Link: amazon.com/26175EH-Inflatable-Puncture-Resistant-Cartridge/dp/B073FMPD52
Dimension: 18ft x 48in |Shape: Round |Water Capacity: 5455 Gallons |Set-up-time: 45 minutes |Material: 3-Ply PVC - Inflatable |Suits Up To: 8 People |Color: Blue
For those seeking ultimate convenience and portability, the Intex Easy Set Inflatable Pool emerges as my top choice in the inflatable category. This pool offers a quick and easy solution for summer fun, perfect for smaller yards or those who prefer a temporary pool setup.
Quick and Easy Setup
It is simply amazing how simple Intex Easy Set is to install. Imagine coming home on a hot day and within minutes you are cooling off in your own pool. The pool’s unique design includes an inflatable top ring—just inflate it, start filling the pool with water and see as it rises and takes shape on its own. No complicated frames or hours of assembling required. It’s that simple.
One of the things i really like about the Easy Set is that it is portable. After having fun swimming during summers, you simply deflate, fold and store in a small space. This will be perfect if you don’t have much storage or only want a summer time pool.
Now, while inflatable pools are not usually known for their strength, but don’t worry, the walls of Easy Set is made from a tough, puncture-resistant 3-ply material which provides an excellent combination of strength and flexibility. And how about the top ring? It can withstand water pressure all year long without losing form.
The Intex Easy Set comes in many sizes making it easy for you to find what suits your needs best. There are options available whether you’re looking for just a little something for the kid’s splashing around or something larger for the whole family.
For instance:
- The 8 feet diameter one holds approximately 513 gallons—perfect for smaller spaces such as backyards.
- The 12 feet model holds about 1,485 gallons giving more space to move around in.
- Also, if you want to go big, there is always room at home since an 18 feet pool can hold up to 5,455 gallons thus enough space for family funs.
Pros:
- Extremely quick and easy setup process
- Highly portable and easy to store
- Available in various sizes to suit different needs
- Affordable option for casual pool enjoyment
- No complex assembly or tools required
Cons:
- Not as durable as framed pools and more prone to punctures.
- Might not come with all the accessories you need, so you may need to buy a few extras.
- Usually smaller in size compared to framed above-ground pools
Best Budget Under $500
For those seeking an affordable yet reliable above-ground pool experience, i’ve identified three top contenders in the under $500 category. These pools offer a balance of quality, features, and value, making them excellent choices for budget-conscious swimmers.
INTEX Prism Frame Premium Above Ground Pool
Link: amazon.com/Intex-Round-Prism-Frame-26723EH/dp/B07H2NP7PR
Dimension: 15ft x 42in |Shape: Round |Water Capacity: 3861 Gallons |Set-up-time: 45 minutes |Material: Steel |Suits Up To: 6 People |Color: Gray
The Intex Prime Frame pool is a step down from the Ultra XTR line in Intex’s lineup. It’s popular for being both affordable and and great for first-time pool owners. Here’s a quick overview of the lines Intex offers based on what I’ve found:
- Ultra XTR
- Prime Frame
- Metal Frame
They range from high-end to cheaper options. In my case, i settled for the Prime Frame line and settled on a 15-foot diameter pool. This size is ideal; neither too large nor too small, comfortably fitting up to three or four people.
The Prime Frame falls below the XTR but still has some of its best qualities. You will receive 3-Ply puncture-resistant PVC material and powder-coated steel tubing that have made Intex company well known.
Additionally, it includes Krystal Clear C1000 pump (with a capacity of 1000 gallons per hour), pool cover, ground cloth and ladder among other things. One more thing about this pool is its height which stands at 42 inches perfect when you have young kids below the age of five years. It’s safe, easy-to-use plus it provides a depth that would be suitable for family fun.
From my own experience, the Prime Frame line perfectly balances quality and affordability. It’s an ideal choice for families who want a reliable above-ground pool without spending too much. The pool’s durability and easy setup make it a favorite for those looking for a dependable and budget-friendly swimming option.
Pros:
- Durable steel frame and triple-layer liner for longevity
- Easy assembly process with clear instructions
- Includes essential accessories like a filter pump and ladder
- Attractive blue tile print design
- Excellent value for money in the under $500 category
Cons:
- The pump tends to be underpowered and may overheat (which could require replacement sooner than expected).
- The setup instructions can be confusing.
Bestway Power Steel Oval
link : amazon.com/Bestway-56631E-Power-Steel-Ground/dp/B07G341XQ9
Dimension: 15ft x 8'2" x 39.5in |Shape: Oval |Water Capacity: 1915 Gallons (90%) |Set-up-time: 30 minutes |Material: Steel |Suits Up To: 6 People |Color: Gray
If you want an above-ground pool of high quality for less than $500, then another great option to consider is Bestway Power Steel. Bestway is a well-regarded brand that stands its ground against Intex and their Power Steel range has been a consistent top-selling product on Amazon over the years.
This time i chose the 14 x 8 ft oval model. The oval shape is a clever alternative if you want more room to swim as compared to a round one but remember it might be slightly more difficult to assemble and needs a bit more space.
Of course, you can also choose a larger model, but it will not fit the $500 criteria in this article
The durability of this Power Steel line really impresses me. Pool sidewalls are made from Tritech, which is three-layered reinforced material with polyester mesh sandwiched between two layers of thick gauge PVC. This ensures that it is compact in all its parts because of anti-corrosion metal frames.
The package includes removable ladder, ChemConnect dispenser (pretty handy, efficient and user-friendly), pump and filter. On the other hand, this pool does not come with any cover or ground clothes hence in case you would like these items then they should be bought separately.
The Bestway Power Steel offers a great balance between affordability and quality, making it a strong contender if you’re on a budget but still want a durable and spacious pool. By the way, the pool stands at 39.5 inches high, making it ideal for families with young children.
Pros:
- Very easy setup
- Durable liner and frame
- Suitable for small spaces
- Good value
- High customer satisfaction
Cons:
- No included cover
- INTEX Metal Frame Above Ground Pool Set
INTEX Metal Frame Above Ground Pool Set
link: amazon.com/INTEX-28211EH-Cartridge-Filter-Above-Ground/dp/B00TXWPT2K/
Dimension: 10ft x 30in |Shape: Round |Water Capacity: 1,185 Gallons |Set-up-time: 30 minutes |Material: Steel |Suits Up To: 4 People |Color: Blue
Another strong contender in my Top Under $500 list is the INTEX Metal Frame Set. Initially, I planned to highlight just two products, but leaving this one out felt like a disservice.
Finding a product that offers both a reputable brand like Intex and a great price point is rare. The Metal Frame series is Intex’s budget line, but when you look at the performance-to-price ratio, this pool truly stands out.
It still features the durable, puncture-resistant 3-Ply PVC layer, and while the metal frame is of decent quality—especially considering the budget-friendly price—it holds up well. Setting it up is a breeze, and it comes with a 330 GPH pump. However, keep in mind that it doesn’t include extras like a pool cover, ground cloth, ladder, or hose… It makes sense, they’ve trimmed some features to keep the price low.
I went with the 10 feet by 30 inches version, but there’s also a 12-foot option. The pool stands at 30 inches high, with a recommended water level of about 24 inches (80% full). It’s a great choice for families, especially if your kids aren’t too big yet.
Pros:
- User-friendly assembly
- Family entertainment hub
- Robust construction
- Ideal size for small families
- Budget-friendly option
Cons:
- Subpar pump performance
- Requires precise leveling
- Additional accessories needed
Best Above-Ground Pool For Kids
When it comes to choosing the perfect pool for children, safety, durability, and fun are top priorities. I’ve selected three outstanding options that cater specifically to the needs of young swimmers, ensuring countless hours of aquatic enjoyment for the little ones.
Bestway Steel Pro
link: amazon.com/Bestway-DuraPlus-Reinforced-Puncture-Resistant/dp/B08VRNCPCK
Dimension: 9ft x 26in |Shape: Round |Water Capacity: 851 Gallons |Set-up-time: 30 minutes |Material: Steel |Suits Up To: 4 People |Color: Panda Jungle Print
I will start with the Bestway Steel Pro 9 Foot x 26 Inch, this pool is just 26 inches tall, making it super safe for young children with a recommended water level of about 23 inches (90% full). It’s the perfect size for families with small kids, with a water capacity of approximately 850 gallons.
Despite its affordable price, it doesn’t skimp on quality. The DuraPlus enhanced 3-layer liner is a standout feature, being 15% more tear-resistant, 33% more stretch-resistant, and 83% more puncture-resistant than standard PVC. This means you can count on this pool to last through many summers.
Additionally, the frame connectors are designed to prevent metal-on-metal contact, ensuring the pool is resistant to corrosion and rust.
What really adds to the fun is the vibrant Panda pattern. It’s not just a pool; it’s an experience that immerses your child in a colorful, animated world, making every splash a part of a summer adventure.
Please note that: It does not come with Pool Cover and Chemical Dispenser (by Bestway)
Pros:
- Quick setup (under 1 hour)
- kid-friendly design
- Compact size, perfect for small yards
- Budget-friendly summer entertainment
Cons:
- Limited accessories included
- Durability can be hit or miss over time

link: amazon.com/Toysical-Inflatable-Pool-Air-Pump/dp/B08CYD2HDC
Dimension: 118” x 72” x 22” |Shape: Rectangular |Water Capacity: 312 Gallons |Set-up-time: 5 minutes |Material: PVC |Suits Up To: 4 People |Color: Blue
The next product on my list is the Toysical Inflatable Pool. Unlike the Bestway Steel Pro 9 Foot pool, this one is inflatable, making it a perfect option if you’re looking to avoid the hassle of setting up a metal frame or if you simply want something that’s easy to store and portable.
The setup is a breeze, taking less than 15 minutes—just inflate and fill with water, and you’re good to go.
Even though it’s relatively compact, this pool holds about 312 gallons of water, perfect for keeping a family of three cool on hot summer days. What really impressed me is its 0.4mm thick material—twice as thick as standard pools—making it super durable and long-lasting.
I love how easy it is to set up, letting families spend more time enjoying the water and less time fussing with assembly. The sturdy construction gives you peace of mind, and its portability means you can bring the fun anywhere you go
Pros:
- Easy to set up
- Durable material
- Comfortable and stable
- Good value for money
Cons:
- Low-quality pump

Dimension: 79" x 16" x 79" |Shape: Round |Set-up-time: 5 minutes |Material: Plastic |Color: Green
I’d be remiss if i didn’t mention the Jasonwell Foldable Dog Kiddie Pool. This is a fantastic option if you have a toddler baby or small dogs.
The XXL size offers a spacious 79 inches x 16 inches (H), making it perfect for toddlers and dogs alike. Unlike inflatable or metal frame pools, this one is made of durable plastic. When you’re not using it, just fold it up and tuck it away—super convenient!
It’s designed with a bottom/side lower drain hole and comes with an extra hose connector, making water drainage a breeze. Plus, the 2024 version has been upgraded with Heavy Duty Vinyl—super durable, with three layers of laminated vinyl and polyester mesh. It’s puncture-resistant and designed to prevent outward collapse.
Pros:
- Strong build

- Big enough for family use
- Good for kids and pets
Cons:
- Sometimes, when you drain the water, it doesn’t completely empty out
Best “Permanent” Above-Ground Pool
Lake Effect “Meadows Reprieve” 24′ Round Pool
Link: amazon.com/Lake-Effect-Reprieve-Protected-Widemouth/dp/B07QHZ5412
Dimension: 24ft x 52in |Shape: Round |Water Capacity: 13,000 - 14,500 Gallons |Set-up-time: Up to 12 hours (depending on ground leveling) |Material: Resin coated steel |Suits Up To: 12 People |Color: Meadows Reprieve pattern
Finally, on my list are a few standout options for those who are truly interested in investing in a high-end, “permanent” Above Ground Pool. If you’re looking to splurge, my top picks offer unmatched quality and luxury.
One of my favorites is the Hard Side Above Ground Pool from the Lake Effect “Meadows Reprieve” brand. While typical metal frame above ground pools, which are surrounded by a liner, generally last about 5 to 10 years, Hard Side Above Ground pools can last up to 15 years. Of course, you’ll need to put in some effort for maintain your pool over time.
The Lake Effect “Meadows Reprieve” is built with an incredibly strong steel wall that’s hot-dipped galvanized for protection. Every component, from the vertical uprights and pool wall to the top rail, is covered with high-quality resin. The parts are custom-made for a perfect fit, and the steel pins, bolts, and nuts are crafted from high-grade stainless steel, so you won’t have to worry about rust.
This pool is a 24-foot round with a height of 52 inches and holds an estimated 13,000 – 14,500 gallons of water. With this size, you can comfortably swim and entertain a large number of guests.
What i love about this pool is that it’s made in the USA and comes with a beautiful Antilles Dolphin pattern liner, making you feel like you’re swimming with dolphins surrounded by lifelike coral. The North American cut material is hand-folded to prevent permanent creasing and excess wrinkling.
However, there’s one thing to keep in mind: With a Metal frame above ground pool, if you want to change its location, you can simply drain the water, move it, and reassemble.
But with a Hard Side pool, it’s not that simple. Choosing the perfect installation location and doing the proper ground prep is crucial, as this pool is much more stable and permanent. Keep in mind that the installation can be a bit tricky. I’ve written a tutorial on how to install it, which you can check out if you need some guidance.
Another great benefit of a Hard Side pool is that you can customize your backyard, turning it into a true tropical oasis. Whether it’s adding decking, re-landscaping, or other enhancements, the possibilities are endless…

If round pools aren’t your style, Lake Effect offers an 18′ x 33′ Oval option with similar features and specifications. This is a truly “huge” size, and the Oval shape requires a larger garden space. If your backyard has the room, I believe this is an excellent choice.
